GMM Friday Mainstage 2: In Flames

In Flames Live

This is one of those bands that has changed so much along the way. Last year they released ‘Sirens Charms’. A new direction if compared to the last one ‘Sounds Of A Playground Fading’, which was more of a non-scream metal album.

Back to the nu-metal/melodic death metal!

Review: Ostrogoth – ‘Last Tribe Standing’

LTS front

This Belgian band is one that has released its last official album in 1987. After ten years of being inactive the group decided to come back together in 2010 to rock some more. And that’s exactly what they did! ‘Last Tribe Standing’ is what we’d call “a comeback with a vengeance”.

It’s always a pleasure to get to know new, inexperienced bands. The most fun new bands obviously come from your home country, because you can see them live, or stumble across them as they play somewhere were you accidentally show up.

From the southern part of The Netherlands, my native country, from the town of Middelburg, these four young Dutchmen released their self-titled debut on the first of November, 2014.

Sabaton Saturday: ‘Midway’

Sabaton-Coat-Of-Arms

Two weeks ago I explained the conclusion of the pacific war and, at the same time, the end of World War II. The atomic bombs over Hiroshima and Nagasaki. While most of WWII went down on the European mainlands, there was some heavy fighting in the so-called ‘Pacific Theater of Operations’.

First the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor, a naval base near the Hawaii islands. This was a terrible and unpredictable attack from the United States’ point of view. Six months after the attack on Pearl Harbor the Allied forces fought off another Japanese attack in the Pacific Theater. At the Midway Islands the battle of Midway was fought, 4-7 June, 1942.

GMM Friday Mainstage 1: Slash featuring Myles Kennedy and the Conspirators

Slash_with_Myles_Kennedy

One of the most pleasant surprises of the last couple of years has been the revival of the famous guitarist Slash. After various failed solo projects, such as Slash’s Snakepit and Velvet Revolver, which was the better of the two, he decided to go on as Slash featuring Myles Kennedy & The Conspirators.

Review: Civilian – ‘The Second’

hoes kleiner

A lot of people have the ambition to do something special. They might even set a world record. The fun thing about world records is that you can do it in every way you want. So if you are a band and you want to make the world’s “shortest song”, you can do that. And Civilian has decided it was the time to break the current record.

Sabaton Saturday: ‘Inmate 4859’

Live sabaton

Sometimes a war is all about groups of soldiers. Battalions, regiments or resistance groups. But the most intriguing war stories are mostly about single persons. One man, or woman, that decided there were things to be done and duties to be fulfilled.

After Simo Häyhä, also known as White Death, I will discuss another single war hero. Witold Pilecki was a dedicated Polish soldier and the leader of the Polish cavalry. After the conquering of Poland by the Germans, he decided, together with his general Włodarkiewicz to found the Secret Polish Army. A resistance group dedicated to undermine the German rule.

GMM Friday Headliner Two: Marilyn Manson

Marilyn Manson live

Earlier today I have covered the other headliner of the 2015 edition of the Graspop Metal Meeting. Which headliner closes off this first day is still unknown, but it doesn’t really matter does it? Because Marilyn Manson can give you a good time as well.

GMM Friday Headliner One: KISS

Kiss, Nowadays

Because I reckon most of you will know the actual headliners, there will be two headliners posted on the same day. The fun in this series will be the smaller and more unknown bands that play this festival on a stage in a small tent.

In 2014 the Graspop management decided to build an extra main-stage. This results in more bands and also, a double amount of Headliners! The first day, Friday, the 19th of June, will be closed off by two big players in their own scene. Legendary rock band KISS and the industrial maniac Marilyn Manson.
