“It consumes a lot of your time, but what else should I do? Watch TV?”

With a small fanbase, but with lots of energy, the Amsterdam based Orange Outlaw released their very first album ‘Desert Wolf’, halfway down 2015. Dedication, interest and the drive to be out there has seen the band release their debut album independently. Now, half a year later, it’s hard to see what has happened with the ambitious hard rock band. Guitarist Dirkjan de Wit knows why: “We were, and still are, incredibly unknown. We’ve done everything about the album ourselves!”

Independent releases are sometimes a source of terrible production, of bad choices and unbalanced tracks. But there are these independently produced and released records that absolutely blow you away. Vly‘s first album ‘I / [Time]’ is a progressive album from the latter of those two. With the use of amazing progressive sounds and music, the band, united by guitarist and producer Karl Demata, takes steady aim at a high spot in the top ten of 2015. But how does working on a distance go with people from thee different countries? And is it possible to create an album entirely on your own?

With it’s seventh album released, Sirenia has delivered another very solid album. ‘The Seventh Life Path’ is the latest work by the mastermind Morten Veland. Overall Loudness talked to him about the new album, about the numerology in the title. And also, what does a band have to do to get on top of it’s competition nowadays?

Three years ago there was a riot at the Sabaton headquarters. It resulted in the departure of four members who decided to start anew. Three of them are still active in Civil War, keyboard player Daniel Myhr is one of them. With a life full of adventure we were left with a lot of questions. Why is it just out while the record was finished last July? How is the relationship with the other Sabaton guys? And do they ever get tired talking about Sabaton this much? He gladly picked up the phone to have a little chat about the new record ‘Gods And Generals.

A lot of bands these days start a Kickstarter campaign to finance their new record. We hear a lot of the success stories, about the already well-known bands, or new bands that manage to pull off an amazing campaign. But last week we had a chance to talk to a band that started a Kickstarter, but the campaign failed, because of various reasons. Brothers Dennis and Robbin van de Bor had the time to tell us how you get over such a disappointment and how they managed to still pull of the release of their self-titled debut album.

2015 saw us some very fine releases already. Among them was the new record ‘Extinct’ from the Gothic metal pioneers Moonspell. Frontman Fernando Ribeiro was kind enough to pick up the phone to tell me, and you all, something about this new record, the songs on it and that Moonspell will not be going extinct. At least not yet.

Interview with Alestorm’s Christopher Bowes and Gareth Murdock

Bowes and Murdock

When the guys from Alestorm come to town, you kind of know what to expect. Partying, laughing and a huge amount of humor. A couple of hours before the only Dutch show in Eindhoven, singer/keyboard player Christopher Bowes and bass player Gareth Murdock shed some light on the recording of the fourth album and what may have changed Alestorm over the past couple of years. Luckily they were glad to, among other things, share some of their knowledge.
