In the modern Metal industry the so called female fronted metal bands are mostly long haired women with a high soaring vocals. Bands like Nightwish, Amaranthe and Within Temptation have thrived on that genre for quite some years now. But Scarved is delivering us something completely different. This female fronted rockband, formed around vocalist Caro, delivers us the powerful rock album ‘Dynamite’.
The honor of being the first new post on my brand new website is another one of those bands that have been around for quite some time, but that I never heard of before! Probably because they never really made it out of their home country. With a lot of Hard Rock and some Glam Metal the Swedish band The Poodles release their sixth album ‘Devil In The Details’.
Last month I reviewed an album by the American band The Midnight Ghost Train. In the review I said that sludgy rock is one of my favorites. And now, at the end of March, the band Mammoth Mammoth will be releasing their fourth album. I won’t go over the sludge rock again, but ‘Volume IV: Hammered Again’ is one of those rock records.
Nostalgia, is sometimes referred to as some kind of sickness. You should not be nostalgic, don’t look back to the past, but focus on the present and keep track of what’s going to come. But I personally don’t mind some good old nostalgic moments, especially in music.
And along comes Mabel Greer’s Toyshop! The predecessor of the legendary prog-rock band Yes. ‘A New Way Of Life’ could be another major trip to the past on a disc. But is this true?
My, oh my, this is a band that had the biggest kickstart of all the bands out there. In 2008 and 2009 The Answer has opened the shows of AC/DC on their Black Ice World Tour. So they traveled the entire world with one of the most renowned rock bands of all. And here they are, six years later, with their fifth album ‘Raise A Little Hell’.
One of my favorites is the kind of dark, grooving and sometimes almost sludgy riffs that some bands manage to create so well. Not really the death and doom metal kind of sludgy and dark, but more like the stoner-rock kind of music.
Bands like Graveyard, Witchcraft and The Midnight Ghost Train manage to take this sound and do amazing things with it. That’s exactly what happens on ‘Cold Was The Ground’, the new record of the American band The Midnight Ghost Train.
Sometimes there are these bands that do nothing new at all. They just seem to thrive on the success of a pretty much well-known sound of one, or more, bands. That’s the kind of band Smash Into Pieces is, but they have their stuff figured out alright.
“Anything standing between us and our dreams, we Smash Into Pieces”, the band states. A clear message you could say, especially when the “tough guy”pictures attract your attention. A Swedish band, with a mission, a mission to take over the world.
This Belgian band is one that has released its last official album in 1987. After ten years of being inactive the group decided to come back together in 2010 to rock some more. And that’s exactly what they did! ‘Last Tribe Standing’ is what we’d call “a comeback with a vengeance”.
A lot of people have the ambition to do something special. They might even set a world record. The fun thing about world records is that you can do it in every way you want. So if you are a band and you want to make the world’s “shortest song”, you can do that. And Civilian has decided it was the time to break the current record.
