Hello Overall Loudness readers,
As the final hours of the year pass slowly by, we present to you our very own top 15 of 2015.
We’ve chosen only the bands that we actually reviewed, with the scores we gave them during the year in mind.
The Belgian metal scene is blooming like never before. I honestly don’t know why, but all of a sudden the Belgians decided to go and make some amazing heavy metal music. Following the releases of Temptations For The Weak and Guilty As Charged, who both partook in the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, is the independent release of Ython’s debut album ‘Titanomachy’. Let’s see if these Belgians have the potential to become titans.
I have been talking about how many great new albums and bands are coming from Belgium these days. Lately we had Guilty As Charged, Ethernity and Ostrogoth to name a couple of them. But lo and behold, another Belgian band sent their record to fall onto my doormat. Waiting For releases their debut album called: ‘The Hexen’.
Last year the Belgian Thrash Metallers of Guilty As Charged released their debut album called ‘Leap Of Faith’. Doing everything themselves, without any help of a label at all. It’s a big step and also a great adventure for a young band like this. Hoping for a place in the Red Bull Bedroom Jam, bassist Hannes de Caluwé has found time to talk about everything that’s going on. “It all took a lot of time and it has absorbed quite a lot of money, too, but we’re very proud of what it has become!”
The last couple of years the thrash metal scene has been dominated by mostly older and more experienced bands. It seems to be hard for youngsters to get the same kind of success.
But last year there was an album by a couple of younger, Belgian guys. They call themselves Guilty As Charged and have released one solid thrash metal album: ‘Leap Of Faith’.
