One of our favorite Aussie bands is back in town to rock roll some more! After the vastly successful ‘Volume IV – Hammered Again’ album, which ended up in our fifteen best albums of 2015, the stoner rock band Mammoth Mammoth is ready to destroy your speakers once again. Don’t expect to get a rest from these guys. With four, previously unreleased, tracks they are showing us something new with ‘Mammoth Bloody Mammoth’.
“It consumes a lot of your time, but what else should I do? Watch TV?”
With a small fanbase, but with lots of energy, the Amsterdam based Orange Outlaw released their very first album ‘Desert Wolf’, halfway down 2015. Dedication, interest and the drive to be out there has seen the band release their debut album independently. Now, half a year later, it’s hard to see what has happened with the ambitious hard rock band. Guitarist Dirkjan de Wit knows why: “We were, and still are, incredibly unknown. We’ve done everything about the album ourselves!”
Overall Loudness Fifteen Best Albums of 2015
Orange Outlaw – Desert Wolf
Energy, power, passion and love for music. That’s what this Dutch band is all about. Straight out of Amsterdam, the rockers of the new Orange Outlaw are here to conquer the world with an old school mix of powerful hard rock meets heavy metal. Three years after the band got together their debut album is finally here. I’m not sure you can find a “real” ‘Desert Wolf’ in Amsterdam, but the album gives you almost more than you can handle!
W.A.S.P. – Golgotha
Unfortunately, I’ve been born a decade too early to experience the legendary hard rockers of W.A.S.P. in their original setting. Also, I’ve never been able to see Metallica, with Cliff Burton, open for them in the USA. With that out of the way I dare to say, I’ve never really been introduced to W.A.S.P. ‘Golgotha’, the new album by Blackie Lawless and companions, was my first encounter with their music. But man, I’m so very, very glad I got a chance to dig into this record!
Jackson Firebird – Shake The Breakdown
How do you create a good, solid record? It’s a question that every new band wants answered, I guess. The problem is that there’s only a select group of people that can tell you that. If you’re just starting by yourselves, in the basement, you’ll have to figure it out on your own. Some bands tend to do too much, but that’s not how Jackson Firebird works. The Mildura, Australia, based rock duo has just released their second album ‘Shake The Breakdown’, which breathes simplicity. Let’s see what kind of breakdown these two guys have in mind.
The Pony Hellride Experience – Buffalo Mountain EP
A couple of months ago I explained my love for stoner rock to you, and here we go again. In the footsteps of amazing bands like The Midnight Ghost Train and Mammoth Mammoth a new 2015 stoner release has been blasting my speakers. The Germans of The Pony Hellride Experience descended from one of the most northern cities of Germany, called Kiel. Lucky for us they took their ‘Buffalo Mountain’ EP with them.
Tracer – Water For Thirsty Dogs
It’s definitely something if a famous producer, like Iron Maiden’s Kevin Shirley, is willing to produce your second album. Not only have you made your presence known with your debut, but you also aroused the interest of international players in the music business. This is exactly what happened with the Australian three piece Tracer and now they’re back with a third full-length record: ‘Water For Thirsty Dogs’.
Glowsun – Beyond The Wall Of Time
A couple of weeks ago I reviewed the latest instrumental rock album by the German My Sleeping Karma. It was a real, relaxing piece of work that tried to kidnap and take you to an instrumental realm. Now the French respond with their view on instrumental rock music. The three piece of Glowsun is ready to rock with their new album ‘Beyond The Wall Of Time’, but are we ready for them?
Review: Hardcore Superstar – HCSS
The Gothenburg, Sweden, based Hardcore Superstar is nothing of what the name suggests. The aggressive “hardcore” genre we sometimes hear in metal is something completely different when compared to what Hardcore Superstar makes. With their so-called “Street Metal” these Swedes have managed to get some great mainstream success. Now they want to go back to their roots with the release of their tenth record ‘HCSS’.
