Hello Overall Loudness readers,
As the final hours of the year pass slowly by, we present to you our very own top 15 of 2015.
We’ve chosen only the bands that we actually reviewed, with the scores we gave them during the year in mind.
A couple of months ago I explained my love for stoner rock to you, and here we go again. In the footsteps of amazing bands like The Midnight Ghost Train and Mammoth Mammoth a new 2015 stoner release has been blasting my speakers. The Germans of The Pony Hellride Experience descended from one of the most northern cities of Germany, called Kiel. Lucky for us they took their ‘Buffalo Mountain’ EP with them.
Last month I reviewed an album by the American band The Midnight Ghost Train. In the review I said that sludgy rock is one of my favorites. And now, at the end of March, the band Mammoth Mammoth will be releasing their fourth album. I won’t go over the sludge rock again, but ‘Volume IV: Hammered Again’ is one of those rock records.
One of my favorites is the kind of dark, grooving and sometimes almost sludgy riffs that some bands manage to create so well. Not really the death and doom metal kind of sludgy and dark, but more like the stoner-rock kind of music.
Bands like Graveyard, Witchcraft and The Midnight Ghost Train manage to take this sound and do amazing things with it. That’s exactly what happens on ‘Cold Was The Ground’, the new record of the American band The Midnight Ghost Train.
